No. ΣΑΩ is an inter-denominational organization. As long as you are in alignment with our profession of faith, you are eligible to join.

2. Is ΣΑΩ Pan-Hellenic?

No. This sorority is officially recognized as an independent national non-profit organization; therefore, we do not follow the Pan-Hellenic schedule and means of recruitment.

We highly recommend potential candidates be part of a fellowship or church body before participating in recruitment. We believe being part of a Christian fellowship in your local church is crucial to the spiritual maturity that we seek in our members.

4. How is ΣΑΩ different from other sororities?

We are different from other sororities because we focus our energy on bible studies, prayer, service, fellowship in Christ.

5. What does it mean to be in a Reactivation Class?

Reactivation of a chapter means that a chapter has formerly deactivated. Reactivation of a chapter is most easily explained as "re-founding" or "re-establishing" a chapter at a university. Because our chapter does have prior history, the reactivation class still honors the founders and traditions that came before us. The reactivation class is likely to lead itself under the assistance of any active sisters and alumni through the candidate class and projects. The incoming candidate class will be known as a reactivation class, but it will be named by the next Greek alphabet letter in the membership generation list.

6. How do I join this chapter of ΣΑΩ?

Instead of "rush," ΣΑΩ participates in "recruitment" each semester. After you attend and sign up for recruitment, you will be interviewed by the executive team of the Alpha Sigma chapter. If you are extended an invitation to participate in our Candidate Process, you will be required to complete a number of Candidate Classes and projects to learn about how the Alpha Sigma chapter of ΣΑΩ operates. You will be learning about our traditions, events, and values. Upon completion of the Candidate Process, candidates will be voted upon by the sisters to affirm the completion of all candidate requirements, be initiated, and officially invited to represent the Greek letters of ΣΑΩ.

7. What are the costs to be a sister?

Our goal is to make sisterhood as affordable as possible for all sisters. In their first semester in the Alpha Sigma chapter of ΣΑΩ, candidates have paid $175.00 to the chapter to cover candidate expenses. Each semester, our active sisters' nonrefundable dues amount to $150.00. This covers all expenses of events, retreats, select apparel, national fees, and chapter insurance. Sisters with other statuses pay lesser fees determined at a later time. As a reactivation chapter, we will determine together how much chapter dues will be in addition to National Dues and mandatory insurance fees.
